I am Coastal Banksia. My family originated from Eastern Australia
| I am a small shapely tree that naturally grows in many coastal areas in eastern Australia where I am often an important part of the ecosystem.
My yellow flower cones appear in winter, attracting birds, insects and other animals. I am an important food source for honey production. My flowers are followed by woody shapely seed cones which persist for the remainder of the year. While I naturally grow in sandy soils I am adaptable and cope well with most soils and I am hardy inland as well as on the coast. I am tolerant of salt and exposed locations. I respond well to pruning as I grow and can even be maintained as a low hedge if shaped from when I am young. |
