I am Silver Banksia. My family originated from Eastern Australia
| I am a hardy and relatively fast growing but long lived Australian native.
I thrive in a wide variety of environmental conditions and a good choice for exposed locations and wherever plants need to be hardy. I favour a sunny or partly shady position, and may become spindly if grown in the shade. I tolerate a variety of soil types including sandy soils, loams and clay but enjoy reasonable drainage. I make a great street tree. I am drought resistant and will do well in exposed windy locations. My large yellow flowers in spring are sought out by nectar feeding birds and the seed cones that follow by cockatoos and other seed feeding parrots. Guide me to a good form when young, pruning hard if required. Once mature I flower on old wood so prune me less once I have started flowering. |
