I am Pincushion Hakea. My family originated from South Western Australia
Botanic Name: Hakea laurina
I am Pincushion Hakea. My family originated from South Western Australia
| I am an attractive small to medium native tree with showy and unusual flower heads that look like a red pincushion with prominent white, cream or pale pink styles. I bloom in winter when many plants are not in flower.
I am a great way to attract nectar feeding birds, bees and beneficial insects to the garden. My attractive leathery blue-green leaves often curl adding interest. Particularly hardy I thrive in conditions and soils that challenge many plants. With my naturally good form, upright habit and low maximum height I am the ideal street tree. I make a great feature or specimen tree. Plant me in a row to create a wildlife friendly screening hedge. |
