I am Hardenbergia Meema™. My family originated from Eastern Australia
| I am a hardy, tidy and long-lived form of the popular native sarsaparilla, a climbing vine with masses of purple flowers and deep green heart shaped leaves. While I am a form that will climb when given access to a trellis etc. I really shine is as a compact and hardy groundcover where I form dense cover to about 50cm with a spread of 2 metres.
Tolerant of cold and drought my crisp clean foliage handles very cold winters and hot dry periods of northerly winds far better than regular forms like ‘Happy Wanderer’. I need no pruning to look my best but can be maintained as a low hedge with regular trimming to shape. My blooms are sprays of small pea flowers are very long lived appearing from July-September. My mounding habit makes me a great feature plant in many garden and landscaping styles. I will perform at my best in full sun to semi shade. I thrive in almost all soils from sandy to heavy clay. |
