I am Manzanillo Olive. My family originated from the Mediterranean
Producing very consistent even round fruit that cures well either green or black I am one of the most popular fruiting olives grown in Australia.
Oil from my crushed fruit has a fresh aroma and a sweet delicate flavour. Pruning after harvest will help me maintain a dense, compact form. I can be pruned hard if required and work well in topiary and even as a bonsai. I am easily maintained at smaller sizes performing well when pots or container grown. Water me well when I am in flower and during fruit formation to improve the quality of the harvest. I make a great shade or feature tree |
Full Sun to Part Shade (4+ hours of direct sun)
Height: 5m Width: 5m (Can be kept trimmed to Height: 1.5m Width: 1.5m) |
|
I need minimal water once established and am a good choice for hot and dry locations
Harvest black or green | |
Hardy I cope with frost, dry conditions, extremes of temperature and perform well in most free draining soils |
I am popular and will make you happy because… |
Fruiting prolifically from a young age, ripening mid-summer my fruit is perfect for curing when green or black
I am just as happy in large pots and containers as I am planted out in the garden
Responding well to pruning I make a great screening hedge, shade tree, feature tree or topiary specimen |
- Plant me:
- in pots and other containers
- in garden beds and general landscaping
- as a screening hedge
- in coastal conditions
Tips for success… |
I am easily maintained in a range of shapes and can be kept small by pruning after harvest
