I am a native grass featuring long silvery or reddish-brown, feathery flower plumes from late summer into autumn. Moving gracefully in a breeze my clumping perennial form with narrow arching leaves makes me a popular choice in a range of landscaping styles. My common and botanic names derive from my distinctive fluffy seed heads, reminiscent of fluffy tails, which stand proud of the foliage and are soft to the touch and child friendly. I attract butterflies for which I provide important habitat. I can help control erosion. I require minimal maintenance but will respond well to a very hard cutback and even being burnt off. Hardy I am a good choice for exposed locations and windy sites where my flowing form makes me a great feature.
