Rubus fruticosus – Blackberry ‘Chester’ – 140MM

(Not currently available to be ordered)

I am Chester Blackberry. My family originated from Europe

Botanic Name: Rubus fruticosus ‘Chester’

Climber/Vine – Edible Fruit

I am a thornless Blackberry specifically bred to be high yielding and produce large fruit that is easy to harvest over an extended period during summer, typically from December to March.

I am well behaved and don’t sucker.

I will perform at my best in areas with cold winters which aid crop quantity and quality.

My canes are semi erect and should be supported on a trellis for easy management and harvest. Train them by plaiting them through the wires to ensure even coverage.

Prune to manage spread when I am actively growing and remove the old canes in winter as I fruit on last year’s stems (one year wood).

Being self-fertile only one plant is required to get a bountiful harvest.

I will perform at my best in full sun and in rich, fertile, free draining soil. Avoid planting me with direct exposure to hot afternoon sun.

Water regularly when I am actively growing, flowering and setting fruit.
