I am Tiger Grass. My family originated from Asia
| Graceful and commanding I am a perennial grass resembling bamboo and reaching heights of up to 3 meters in as little as 2 years.
My tall, arching leaves are broad and elegant, swaying gently in the breeze, while my feathery, plume-like flower heads add a touch of softness and sophistication. My dense growth creates a natural privacy screen or windbreak, and I provide shelter for birds and insects. I thrive in warm climates and prefer sunny or partially shaded areas. My ability to grow in a variety of soils, from rich loam to rocky terrain, makes me a versatile addition to gardens, slopes, and even degraded land. I am drought-tolerant once established, but I appreciate consistent watering to keep my foliage lush and vibrant. Beyond the elegance I bring to the garden landscape I am incredibly useful. My long, sturdy flower stalks are traditionally harvested to make high-quality brooms, a craft for which I am widely celebrated. I help stabilize and rehabilitate soil making me an excellent choice for erosion control on hillsides and embankments. Low-maintenance, I require little care beyond occasional trim to maintain my shape. My mature flower spikes add visual interest and can be cut for floral arrangements. |
