Everyday care for Salvia patens 'Oceana Blue'

Here’s how to look after me

Tips for success

Keep me thriving

Light suitability: Full Sun to Part Shade (4+ hours of direct sun). Consider local heat, wind and seasonal shade, and follow any more specific advice on the plant label.

I have low maintenance needs, but still appreciate a little attention. Observe the plant’s shape and new growth through the seasons, remove damaged material with clean tools and refresh the mulch when needed without piling it against the stem.

Pruning: My flowers can be cut to be enjoyed indoors and removing spent blooms will encourage me to bloom even more.

Flowering: You can expect me to flower in January, February, March, April, May, November and December. Local climate, position and seasonal conditions can make flowering begin earlier or finish later. Observe the plant rather than pruning by the calendar alone, particularly while buds or flowers are forming.

Watering: Check the soil at root depth regularly and water deeply when it begins to dry. I prefer even moisture without constantly saturated roots. Check more often during establishment and in hot, dry or windy weather.
