Sea of Blue™ Saltbush 140MM

Atriplex cinerea 'AT01' 'Sea of Blue™'

I am Sea of Blue™ Saltbush. My family originated from Australia.

Habit Groundcover - Fast growing
Plant family Amaranthaceae
I am a low, spreading saltbush bred to be lower and bluer than the common form. My dense, silver-blue foliage forms a fast, low-cost groundcover, which provides broad coverage . From winter through spring I send up attractive pink flower spikes, which turn into edible berries by summer. Tough on erosion, effective at suppressing weeds, and a support for local wildlife, I am equally happy holding a coastal dune, a roadside verge, or an inland slope. I cope with most soils, from heavy clay through to sandy, and once established I take dry periods in my stride. I am better suited to large drifts so give me room to spread, whether that is along a roundabout, a car park border, or a sweeping embankment. Brush-cut or hedge-prune me by a third to a half each year in spring or autumn to keep me dense, and feed me every couple of years to refresh my colour.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
I produce pink flower spikes from winter through to spring that turn into edible berries in summer
My silver-blue foliage provides contrast to the garden
I am ideal for borders or as a fast, spreading groundcover
