Pugster Pinker Buddleja 180MM

Buddleja davidii Pugster™ Pinker 'SMNBDB'

I am Pugster Pinker Buddleja. My family originated from eastern Asia.

Habit Shrub - Long flowering
Plant family Scrophulariaceae
I am a spectacular compact long-blooming Butterfly Bush. My rich pink flowers that bloom all through summer produce a very sweet honey fragrance and are a magnet for butterflies. I make great cut flowers allowing my bright colour to be enjoyed indoors. I have dense foliage, good branching and thick sturdy stems making me both hardy and attractive. Plant me in cottage gardens, mixed borders, and containers. To ensure I perform my best, plant me in full sun in well-drained soil. I need little maintenance, but prune me after new growth emerges in spring just above a set my large healthy buds to keep me looking at my best. Although I can tolerate some periods of dryness, I do require a deep water once a week in hot dry weather.
Caution: Harmful if eaten Weed note: Some councils list Buddleja davidii as a weed. This variety isn't named on their lists. Other councils recommend it, so check your own council's list. See Council planting lists below for growing tips.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
I add colour wherever used in the garden with my honey-scented rich pink flower spikes
I grow well in pots and am a great way to add colour to patios and paved areas
I attract bees, butterflies and beneficial insects to the garden

If you'd like to grow it

  • Cut off spent flower stems before the seed heads ripen, so seed can't spread.
  • Put seed heads, fruit and cuttings in the green waste bin, not the home compost.
  • Never dump garden waste in bushland, parks or near creeks.
  • It is lower risk in town gardens, courtyards and pots well away from bushland and waterways. Avoid planting it on properties that border bushland, creeks or farmland.

If you're unsure, ask your local council before planting, especially on a property next to bushland.

From each council's website, checked 27 Oct 2026. Councils update their lists from time to time, so check the source before planting on council land or for a planning permit. Find your council's lists
