I am Hydrangea Storm Cloud. My family originated from Japan.
HabitShrub - Colour changing blooms
Plant familyHydrangeaceae
I am a vigorous Hydrangea with unique, long black stems and bold blooms that put on an exceptional floral display.
My flowers first emerge a soft lavender-purple and mature to a bold hot pink. Note: My colour can shift between deep pink and dark purple depending on your soil pH.
I begin flowering in late spring, bloom right through summer and spot-flower in autumn, all set against fresh green foliage.
I am perfect for anyone wanting to grow their own cut flower garden, and my black stems add a contrasting effect in a winter garden.
I bring colour to shady entertainment areas, small gardens, patios and courtyards, and I grow happily in a container or tub.
I am easy to grow and frost hardy. Keep my roots moist, protect me from hot westerly winds, and plant me in well-draining soil.
Prune me back to a third of my size in winter and feed me in early spring with a slow-release fertiliser, more often in a container.
I am harmful if eaten and can irritate skin and eyes, so take care when handling me.
