English Lavender 140MM

Lavandula angustifolia

I am English Lavender. My family originated from the Mediterranean.

Habit Shrub - Long flowering window
Plant family Lamiaceae
Traditionally grown since Roman times I am one of the most popular lavenders in the garden. I am a bushy evergreen shrub with fine, aromatic, grey-green foliage. Spikes of whispy purple, fragrant flowers borne above the foliage during the warmer months. Not only am I planted for my fragrance and beauty but also because I am a magnet for beneficial pollinators like bees. I am popular as a low hedge, as a border and in rock gardens. I have many other uses with my flowers harvested for use in sachets to give stored clothing a pleasant aroma, used in perfumes and in the kitchen. A light prune to shape at the start of the growing season and after my flowers have started to fade will promote more blooms. Particularly hardy I am the perfect plant for dry and exposed locations but dislike wet feet. Despite my common name I originate from the Mediterranean.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
I have highly fragrant grey-green foliage topped by whispy purple blooms in summer
Plant me where passers by can brush against my foliage and appreciate my scent
Hardy and adaptable I am just as happy garden planted or in a pot
