Nandina Twilight 180MM

Nandina domestica 'Twilight'

I am Nandina Twilight. My family originated from Asia.

Habit Shrub - Year round colour
Plant family Berberidaceae
I am a neat, upright, hardy evergreen shrub that brings year round colour to partly shaded spots. My new foliage emerges flamingo pink and bronze, then matures to variegated green and cream. In summer my starry white flowers add to the display, followed by red berries in autumn. Perfect for pots, garden beds and borders, I also look great alongside pathways, and my slim shape fits courtyards and tight spaces. Plant me in a row along a path, or in a pot beside the front door. I am simple to look after. I prefer a free draining position with protection from the hot afternoon sun. To keep me looking my best fertilise me once a year with a long term slow release fertiliser.
Weed note: Some Victorian councils list Nandina domestica as a weed. This variety isn't named on their lists. Other councils recommend it, so check your own council's list. See Council planting lists below for growing tips.

If you'd like to grow it

  • Birds eat the fruit or berries and can carry the seed a long way. Prune off the flowers, or pick the fruit before it ripens.
  • Put seed heads, fruit and cuttings in the green waste bin, not the home compost.
  • Never dump garden waste in bushland, parks or near creeks.
  • It is lower risk in town gardens, courtyards and pots well away from bushland and waterways. Avoid planting it on properties that border bushland, creeks or farmland.

If you're unsure, ask your local council before planting, especially on a property next to bushland.

From each council's website, checked 27 Oct 2026. Councils update their lists from time to time, so check the source before planting on council land or for a planning permit. Find your council's lists
