Passionfruit 140MM

Passiflora edulis 'Black' (Grafted Passionfruit)

I am Passionfruit. My family originated from South America.

Habit Climber - Delicious Fruit
Plant family Passifloraceae
I am a grafted form of purple/black passionfruit hand-grafted onto hardy Passiflora caerulea rootstock. This combination means I grow well and fruit prolifically in a broad range of soils, climates and conditions. I can be expected to produce up to 400 fruits per plant for up to 10 years. My flowers are complex, intricate and beautiful comprising of a white crown and royal purple filaments around a cream to white corona. My fruit are spherical about 60mm in diameter. The start as a grey green and are ready to harvest as they darken (or fall to the ground). Over time the skin of the fruit dimples as the moisture is drawn inside increasing the sweetness of the delicious pulp inside. I flower in spring and flower throughout the summer. My pulp has a unique and delicious flavour and is a popular ingredient in cakes and deserts such as pavlova. Fast growing I will quickly cover a trellis or pergola up to about 8 square metres. My dense lush evergreen foliage means I am a good choice for a beautiful screen with the benefit of producing a great harvest.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
My prolific edible fruit have a tangy sweet taste and are rich in antioxidants, vitamins A & C
Fast growing with lush dense foliage I will cover any suitable frame or support to create a screen
My large showy flowers attract beneficial insects like bees
