Purple Flag 140MM

Patersonia occidentalis

I am Purple Flag. My family originated from southern Australia.

Habit Strappy - Vivid Purple Flowers
Plant family Iridaceae
I am a native hardy small growing iris with prolific 3 petaled, mostly blue to purple blooms. My flowers are on long stems which hold them above my fine strappy foliage. I am a hardy tuft-forming perennial due to my rhizomatous root system. I tolerate both frost and dry conditions. Each bloom lasts only a day but are produced in such profusion that I create a stunning visual effect particularly when mass planted. As a very easy to care for plant I work well in borders, to add textural accents to the garden and in pots. My flowers attract bees, butterflies and beneficial insects.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
I am an Australian Native wildflower with beautiful large 3 petaled large purple blooms in spring and summer
Plant me in pots or out in the garden. I am a great addition to borders and general planting
I create a great native wildflower meadow when mass planted
