I am Bush Germander. My family originated from the Mediterranean.
HabitShrub - Aromatic foliage
Plant familyLamiaceae
I am a small, hardy, evergreen shrub with interlacing branches and silvery-grey, aromatic foliage.
My clusters of lavender-blue flowers appear in spring and summer, which are a magnet for butterflies, bees and other insect pollinators.
However, it's really my foliage that does the talking, giving a cool, silvery colour contrast wherever I am planted.
I am ideal for low hedges and screens, and I hold a compact, tidy shape whether trimmed as a hedge or left to grow more naturally.
I am equally happy in a garden bed or a pot, so use me to edge a path, form a low border hedge, or add contrast to a mixed planting.
I thrive in a hot, sunny position and need excellent drainage. Once established I take poor soil and dry spells in my stride with little fuss.
Give me a light prune after flowering to keep my growth compact and my shape neat.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
My silvery-grey foliage makes a striking colour contrast against my blue flowers
I am tough and low maintenance, tolerating poor soil and dry spells once established
I am great for pots and containers, as well as garden beds and hedges
